Theme: Living for Jesus
Luke 6:27 "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you."
Reflection:
Loving our enemies is one of the most difficult commands the Lord gives us. Forgiving them is already challenging, but transforming our perspective into one of genuine love is even harder. Without God’s strength, it would be impossible. Yet God does not call us to this without also equipping us with His power. Consider Jesus’ response to those who persecuted Him and nailed Him to the cross: in that moment of suffering, He said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Despite the pain He endured, Jesus loved them enough to intercede on their behalf, revealing the depth of God’s mercy and grace.
In our own lives, we are called to use Jesus’ steady and selfless love as the model for how we treat others. He loves us endlessly, even in our sin and our tendency to drift away from Him. If we receive such undeserved love, shouldn’t we extend it to others as well? When we are betrayed or hurt by those we consider enemies, we face the same challenge: to live as Jesus did, with a heart that chooses love and forgiveness over resentment.
Questions to Consider:
Who do you struggling to love? Why? What steps can you take to move from forgiveness to genuine love?
Application:
Have a genuine conversation with the person you struggle the most to love. After that conversation, reflect on why it is so difficult for you to stick to your values around this person. Determine what steps need to be taken for you to emulate God's character in these moments.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the selfless, undeserving love that you give us. We pray that we can emulate this love especially with those who oppose or hurt us. Jesus, we understand that You have gone through so much pain and continued to pray for the ones who were hurting You the most. We pray that we can walk in Your footsteps, following the path You have laid for us. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
