Theme: Living for Jesus
Romans 8:5 "For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace"
Reflection:
In today's society, it is so easy to get caught up in the ways of the world, whether that is drinking at a party, cursing around your friends, or judging the actions of others. These decisions may bring momentary satisfaction, but they will never fill the God-sized hole in your heart. When we follow our flesh, we are often searching for love, wisdom, and acceptance in the wrong places. However, when we focus our eyes on the Word of God, our desires begin to change along with our spirit. The emptiness within us is no longer mitigated by things of the flesh, but instead yearns to fully understand God's character and His promises. Not only will Scripture provide that love, wisdom, or acceptance that you are seeking, but it will become a weapon for fighting against your flesh.
Questions to Consider:
Where in your life are you holding onto the desires of your flesh? What steps can you take to fight these inclinations and commit yourself to the Lord?
Application:
Now, the next time you feel these desires, open your Bible and focus on how God wants you to live rather than what feels comfortable for your flesh.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving us Your Word so that we may grow closer to You and begin to understand Your complete power. Thank You for this opportunity to reflect on the purpose of Scripture and how it can be applied to our lives. Lord, we ask that as we recognize the areas in which our flesh overpowers our spirit, You become the shield and protection from these poisonous desires. Please give us the opportunity to rely on Your Word for the courage to commit our lives to You, Lord. In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
