Theme: Living for Jesus
Luke 12:2-3 "Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops."
Reflection:
Often times, we attempt to hide our evildoings from God by sinning at night or by ourselves. This verse reminds us that due to His omniscient character, nothing can be hidden from Him. This is why it is so important to reflect God's character in all settings: in the locker room, with people we have just met, and in moments of temptation. Jesus bridged the gap between us and God so that we no longer have to live in shame, but can bring even our darkest parts into His light and find grace. This verse also challenges us to not only be considerate of our actions, but our thoughts and words as well. This truth is not meant to scare us, but to guide us toward integrity, living the same way in private as we do in public. When we choose to be honest with God, we are freed from the burden of hiding. This sense of freedom invites God to move within the darkest parts of us, changing our heart to emulate His character.
Questions to Consider:
Are there areas of my life that you have been trying to hide from God? Are your private actions, words, and thoughts contrary to your public character?
Application:
In a prayer to God, be honest with Him. Tell Him what you have been struggling with, tempted with, or joyful in. Ask God for courage to continue being honest with Him for there is no shame in repentance.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You, Jesus, for removing the burden of our sin by sacrificing Your life on the cross. You have created a bridge between us and God so that our shame may be replayed with the gifts of peace and grace. Lord, help us to recognize this as we work to be more honest with God in our wrongdoings. We thank You again for giving us Your word as a template for how we should live as Christians. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
