Theme: Living for Jesus
Matthew 7:4-5 "How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is a log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
Reflection:
As Christians, it is easy to fall into the habit of comparing our faith to that of others. We may find ourselves wondering "How can they claim to follow Christ but still engage in those activities?", yet this is not how God calls us to view His children. The human flesh is sinful by nature so who are we to judge the actions of others? Instead of concentrating on the outward choices of others, we should turn our attention inward. This inward reflection includes examining our own hearts and seeking to overcome our own sin through obedience to the Word of God.
Questions to Consider:
When do you find yourself judging the actions of other Christians? At the same time, what areas of your own life might others be tempted to judge you for? How does recognizing this change your perspective of others?
Application:
Next time you are tempted to judge others, internally reflect on the decisions you have made throughout the day. Ask God to help you return the grace that He so generously gives you.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your son to bear our sins and offer us the grace that we do not deserve. We ask You to open our hearts to become more understanding as we interact with other Christians who are working alongside us to follow You. Help us to recognize that Your children are beautifully and wonderfully made in Your image and it is our calling to love them as so. We pray that our actions will reflect Your grace in every interaction. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
