Theme: Living for Jesus
Ephesians 6:11 "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil."
Reflection:
Temptation has been a dominant theme in these devotionals because it is something we encounter daily. Temptations are desires that the devil instills within us to pull us further from God. The devil does not need to take those who are already His, however, those who belong to and serve the Lord will experience increased temptation. This said, as we develop a deeper relationship with the Lord, it is common that the devil will try to pull us farther away from Him by convincing us that the world can offer more than the Lord. When we remain rooted in God's Word and steadfast in prayer, temptation loses its power, shifting from a threat to an opportunity. An opportunity to refuse the devil, ultimately bringing glory to God.
Questions to Consider:
What does it look like to 'put on the whole armor of God'? In what situations of your life do you feel the most tempted to go against the will of God?
Application:
Write down a short verse or create a quick prayer that you can repeat to yourself when facing these desires and temptations. This repetition will act as your armor and will help to guide you to making decisions that honor God.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for claiming us as Your children. Thank You for pulling us closer when the devil tries to tear us away from Your love. Help us to recognize temptation and turn directly to You, Lord, for the wisdom and courage to refuse these sinful desires. We trust that Your guidance will lead us down the only correct pathway for our lives. We love you and thank you. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
