Theme: Living for Jesus
1 Corinthians 10:31 "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
Reflection:
Every success or amount of recognition should be framed to glorify God and reveal His power. This mindset is especially important in athletics as we go through many ups and downs throughout our collegiate careers. An athlete committed to God is grateful to the Lord for providing when they do well. An athlete of God also trusts God's plan when meets, competitions, or games do not go well, maintaining a positive, calm, and kind demeaner. Despite the outcome, our reaction and disposition should still reflect God's loving character.
Questions to Consider:
How can we portray God's goodness through your specific athletic performance? Why is it harder to glorify God when we are not doing well?
Application:
Think of a time when you performed extremely well and you turned to the Lord thanking him. Now think of a time when you performed poorly, did you thank the Lord or did you get caught up in your feelings rather than your faith?
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for gifting us with skills that are meant to be used to bring glory to Your holy name. You have given each of us unique opportunities to express our faith and trust in You. Lord, we ask that You help us emulate Your selfless nature in our athletic performances as we are performing for You. Remind us that our acceptance into Your kingdom is not based on our performances but our relationship with You. In darkness and success, we glorify You. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
