4/11 Struggling with Self Control

Theme: Living for Jesus

Proverbs 25:28 "A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls"

Reflection:

This verse may be short, but it is extremely powerful in guiding our decisions. These decisions arise when we are tempted by the world or dwelling on the things of the flesh. This verse emphasizes that a city without walls, stripped of the protection and security, is left vulnerable, chaotic, and weak. Similarly, if we do not work to build the muscle of self control, we are more inclined to harmful habits and distraction from our true purpose. The good news is that God is here to help us rebuild these walls. When we invite Him into our daily lives, He strengthens our ability to choose wisely, to pause before reacting, and to walk in discipline even when it is difficult.

Questions to Consider:

Where are your walls broken? Where does your self-control lack? How can you resist temptation while staying true to yourself?

Application:

Next time you are tempted to compromise to the ways of the world, pause and reflect on how you can lean on God for strength and self-control.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for convicting us of our selfish desires that do not honor You. Jesus, we know that You were tempted but never gave in to sin. Help us to imitate this act of self control as we combat the desires of our flesh. Lord, show us where our walls are weak and help us to rebuild them using Your word and movement in our lives. All of this si in Your holy name, Amen.
