4/24 Sharpen the Spirit

Theme: Living for Jesus

Proverbs 27:17 "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."

Reflection:

Throughout the Bible, God emphasizes the importance of surrounding ourselves with godly people who will lift us up. This verse is a great reminder to spend time with people who will correct us when we are making decisions that stray from the Lord's will. Just as a blade does not become sharper without friction, the iron does not become sharper without the friction of confrontation and holding each other accountable. Because of this, it is important that we chose our friends wisely. This includes letting go of people who pull us farther from God and searching for the fruits of the Spirit in those we spend time with. Building these faithful relationships will push us to be more consisted and devoted in our faith. On the other hand, surrounding ourselves with people who are not actively pursuing Jesus may cause the blade to dull or our fire to diminish.

Questions to Consider:

How comfortable are you with correcting your friends or being corrected based on behavior? How can you sharpen your friends this week?

Application:

Find someone who is as equally yoked as you are and meet with them once a week. Use these meetings as accountability checks where you can discuss struggles, highs and lows, or advice.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We just want to thank You for waking us up this morning. You have given us another beautiful day to be alive and glorify Your name. Lord, we pray that as we continue our walk with You that we can find someone to hold us accountable. Lord, help us to go against the ways of the world and find God fearing friends who honor You with their actions, thoughts, and words. We love You. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
