5/20 Light of Life

Theme: Living for Jesus

Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Reflection:

Our love for Christ, who shines His light through us, is meant to be boldly displayed. It is not meant to be hidden or spoken about in the shadows but proclaimed on a stage and in public. This can be especially difficult when speaking to nonbelievers or people who criticize us for our faith. We may feel ashamed, nervous, or scared in these moments but Jesus faced similar people and continued to shout the name of the Lord without faltering. Choose to live like Jesus. In uncomfortable conversations about your faith, let the Holy Spirit speak through you. Not only will the Lord’s light shine through you, the person on the other end of the conversation will notice that Christ is with you.

Questions to Consider:

What moments do you feel pressure to hide your passion for the Lord? What makes you feel this way? How can you be bold in your faith this week?

Application:

Seek a nonbeliever and have a conversation with them about their faith. Do not force anything on them, pass judgement, or think less of them. Simply meet them where they are and let your heart radiate the light of the Lord.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Your light to spread to those around us. We pray that we can be bold in our faith this, proclaiming our faith on mountaintops rather than in hidden, secluded places. Lord, help us to seek difficult conversations for we know that they help us to grow in our walk with You as well as make an impact on others. Everything is for Your glory. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
