Theme: Keeping Him at the Center
Luke 22:46 "And He said to them, 'Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation'"
Reflection:
Jesus calls us to resist temptation through prayer, a close relationship with God, and time spent in the Word of God. In today’s world, temptations of the flesh are constantly present in our daily lives. The moment we begin to entertain temptation or see how far we can go without consequence, we have already begun to lose the battle. This often occurs when we are spiritually asleep and are not actively attempting to fight temptation or guarding our hearts. As followers of Christ, we must remain alert and intentional. We are called to lean on the Lord for the strength to resist the desires that try to pull us away from Him. This is a display of trust that He will help us stand firm in times of both trial and triumph.
Questions to Consider:
In what areas of your life are you spiritually asleep? Are there situations where you have been comfortable entertaining or justifying temptation?
Application:
Identify these sinful situations and ask God for guidance on avoiding temptation or actively fighting against it. Then, find a chapter in the Bible that relates to your temptation and reflect on how you can live God's Word.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for giving us Your word as an example of how we should live as Your children. We ask that as we begin to stray from Your path, You give us the strength to resist temptation and return to Your plan for our lives. Nevertheless, we thank You for the forgiveness You generously gift us even when we stumble. We could not fight the temptation of our flesh without You so thank You Lord. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
