Theme: Keeping Him at the Center
Luke 9:5 "If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them."
Reflection:
When we begin to share the Word and live out our faith, it is natural to encounter resistance, criticism, and even rejection. Jesus prepared His disciples for this, reminding them not to lose heart when others do not accept the truth. Instead of becoming discouraged, He calls us to respond with steady confidence and intentional poise. This sturdy disposition is a sign of inner peace that can only be achieved through a genuine relationship with the Lord. Rather than being discouraged in the face of rejection, God calls us to view it as an opportunity to bring glory to Him through our actions and response.
Questions to Consider:
What does rejection of the Word and its teachings look like to You? How can you 'shake the dust off your feet' when facing these challenges?
Application:
Think about a time when an unbeliever questioned your authority to be preaching the Word. Following this reflection, write down the things that do make you qualified. This could include your testimony, change in heart posture, relationship with the Lord, or transformed lifestyle.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for giving us Your Word so that we may spread the Good News to both believers and nonbelievers around us. Lord, we ask that you help us to respond with grace, patience, and calm hearts when criticized or rejected for our faith. We preach the Gospel to glorify You, God, not to make ourselves appear more educated or holy. Remind us of this so that our perspective on persecution shifts from personal attacks to new opportunities to share Your goodness. Thank You for giving us so much reason in our lives to speak of Your character. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
