Theme: Trust in God's Plan
Matthew 11:30 "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Reflection:
Although this is a short verse, it is the epitome of living for Christ and provokes meaningful conversation with the Lord. The yoke referred to in this verse is the work that is done to intimately follow God. It is true that we may have to give up worldly desires or leave things behind in order to be in close relation with Him. However, in the end, the work done for Him does not even compare to the reward of eternity. Our work is easy, and following Jesus is a blessing rather than a burden. When we abide by Christ's teachings and attempt to imitate His lifestyle, God begins to ease the weight of our sorrows and anxieties. Although our burdens do not change, they begin to feel lighter as we recognize the Lord's presence.
Questions to Consider:
Is there an aspect of your life that has been holding you back from committing your life to God? Is it money, a relationship, comfort, or something else?
Application:
In the form of prayer journaling, bring up these restraints to the Lord and ask Him to help you focus solely on being in relation with Him.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank You for making it such a joyful blessing to be a follower of You. Your patience, love, and forgiveness make discipleship peaceful and rewarding as we grow closer to You. Lord, we ask that You continue to show us that following You is easy and relieves us of our burdens. We are so underserving of Your love God, but You generously give it anyway. Help us to return this love through following and spreading Your Word, for the work is easy. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
