Theme: Keeping Him at the Center
Galatians 1:10 "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."
Reflection:
As Christians, it is inevitable that not everyone will understand or accept our faith. This disapproval can hinder us from spreading the Gospel, sharing our testimony, or speaking of the way God moves in our lives. Our purpose is not simply to talk about our faith with those who believe, rather it is to plant seeds in the hearts of nonbelievers by spreading the Word of the Lord. Even if this leads to rejection or persecution, we are fulfilling our calling by honoring and glorifying Him.
It can be especially difficult to make choices that reflect our faith in social settings where we feel pressure to fit in or “have fun.” This verse is a great reminder that once we are saved, we are no longer living for ourselves. Now that we belong to the Lord, we are called to live differently from those around us. Rather than following the crowd, we must make decisions that reflect His character and set us apart from those who do not know the Lord.
Questions to Consider:
Are there specific social settings you feel pressured to make choices that go against your faith to fit in? How can you stand firm in your faith while enjoying your time?
Application:
In a journal, reflect how you either stood firm in your faith or conformed to society in this social setting. Write down the actions you could have taken that lead to an outcome that glorifies the Lord.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for transforming our hearts to desire Your will. Salvation belongs to You. As we face difficult choices, remind us that we are only meant to please you, Lord. Give us the courage to live differently as Your followers and go against the temptations of the world. Lord, we love You. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
