5/11 Pray for Your Persecutors

Theme: Trust in God's Plan

Matthew 5:44 "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

Reflection:

As children of God, we are called to love everyone around us. This is extremely natural when we are surrounded by those we deem easy to love. It is not during these moments that our faith is tested. It is during the moments we are surrounded by those who challenge our patience, actively try to bring us down, or go against our faith that truly test where our faith lies. Do we get frustrated and angry or do we gently lead them to Christ and keep them in our prayers?

Questions to Consider:

Who do you find difficult to spread God's love to? If we are not deserving of God's love but He gives it anyway, shouldn't we return His grace by loving those who are against us?

Application:

Take some time with God to pray for those who have hurt you in the past. Ask Him to guide them in the direction of living a godly life. Feel compassion for them as they have not accepted a perfect and loving God into their lives.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your grace. We pray that You give us the opportunity to extend that grace to those around us no matter how they treat us in return. Jesus, you have set a model for us on Earth that we strive to follow. Loving those who strike us and continuing to push them towards a relationship with Christ. Today we pray for all of those who have sinned against us and against You, my God. We pray that they are able to sort through their internal struggles while finding their identity in You. We pray that when we face these brothers and sisters, we work to hold off initial judgement to evaluate the root of their unhappiness. All of this is in Your holy name, Amen.
